Mike is a Missouri native, graduating in 1980 from Raytown South High School. He went to Johnson County Community College where he played baseball for two years. He then went to Phillips University in Oklahoma and played for two years as well. The Texas Rangers drafted him in 1984 in the 20th round. He signed and spent one summer in the Northwest league before moving on to coaching and scouting. He spent a short time as the Assistant General Manager for the Winston-Salem Spirts team out of the Carolina league. Mike came back to Kansas City where he became an associate scout with the Texas Rangers and Asst. Baseball Coach at Johnson County Community College. He is currently the Midwest Scouting Supervisor for the Texas Rangers.
As a scout, Mike signed current Cleveland Indian Travis Hafner, current Texas Rangers Ian Kinsler and Travis Metcalf. In addition he has signed several other players who have reached the Major League level. A young player can benefit because as a scout he is breaking down players to see what works and what doesn't and have developed a pattern of what works. Mike brings a professional aspect of baseball to his teaching. With all of his travels, from playing professionally, to scouting, to managing, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge and is eager to share with young players to help them in their own development.
