Jeff is a local product growing up in Kansas City and graduated from Raytown High School in 1975. He attended the University of Missouri, graduating in 1978. Jeff was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 8th Round (207th overall pick) of the 1978 MLB amateur draft. The Independence Examiner's ranked Jeff Cornell No.36 in the 50 Greatest Athletes of Eastern Jackson County History.
